The Philadelphia Film Society, FirstGlance Film Festival,
Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival and Project Twenty1
Jointly Announce the Creation of OctoberFestPhilly:
a month-long showcase of independent film throughout the month of October.

The Philadelphia Film Society, FirstGlance Film Festival, the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, and Project Twenty1, announce the creation of OctoberFestPhilly, a new alliance of independent film festivals in the Greater Philadelphia region. Together, these festivals seek to create an annual cultural event in Philadelphia, showcasing independent film throughout the month of October.

Following the long history of success of the Philadelphia Film Festival, the Philadelphia Film Society has decided to move the festival from its long-standing position in the Spring to all new dates in the Fall. In moving the Philadelphia Film Festival to October, PFS will be one of the founding organizations of OctoberFestPhilly, along with FirstGlance, Project Twenty1, and the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival.

“We’re thrilled to be moving the Philadelphia Film Festival to October, where we can both have access to higher profile films and guests for the Festival, as well as participate in OctoberFestPhilly,” said PFS Executive Director Andrew Greenblatt. “OctoberFestPhilly will be a fantastic event for the city, providing access to a diverse slate of films and events, and we are anxious to be a part of it.”

OctoberFestPhilly, a unique cultural event, offers film lovers a month of diverse independent films screened in multiple venues. OctoberFestPhilly will also be a boon to local businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, as it is expected to attract visitors from the greater Philadelphia area, all along the NorthEast Corridor and beyond.

“We’re excited to see our idea of OctoberFestPhilly come to life since it increases awareness of indie filmmaking, creates a bond between the participating festivals and provides indie film fests a larger role in the filmmaking community and city,” said FirstGlance Film Festival Director William Ostroff. “Filmgoers will also benefit from OctoberFestPhilly since its interrelated website, www.octoberfestphilly.net, will be the place to get event information, film related activities, party information, and even where to eat and stay for less during the month-long event.”

“Our mission is to unite artists from all disciplines through filmmaking, so OctoberFestPhilly provides the perfect outlet,” says Stephanie Yuhas, Project Twenty1 Executive Producer. “We’re excited,” says Matt Conant, Project Twenty1 Executive Director, "We've always believed in the spirit of collaboration rather than competition amongst arts organizations."

"We're excited to be involved in OctoberFestPhilly, a month long event promoting and celebrating several unique
and distinguished film festivals under one coordinated promotional banner," states Joe Kim, Festival Director for the
Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival.

Specific details regarding OctoberFestPhilly, including additional participating partners, venues, films, passes and
more, will be made available via email and the website over the upcoming months. For more information, please
